President Donald Trump just scored one of the biggest legal victories of his political career. A New York appeals court has struck down the half-billion-dollar penalty that radical Attorney General Letitia James and Judge Arthur Engoron tried to pin on him, calling it “excessive” and unconstitutional.

The case, which Democrats had hyped as the one that could cripple Trump financially, has now crumbled. The ruling wipes out the $515 million-plus penalty that Engoron slapped on Trump after accusing him of inflating his wealth on financial statements — statements that came with disclaimers and were never shown to have harmed anyone.
Appeals Judges Rebuke Engoron’s Ruling
The five-judge panel didn’t mince words. Judges Dianne T. Renwick and Peter H. Moulton wrote, “While the injunctive relief ordered by the court is well crafted to curb defendants’ business culture, the court’s disgorgement order, which directs that defendants pay nearly half a billion dollars to the State of New York, is an excessive fine that violates the Eighth Amendment of the United States Constitution.”
