Despite the clear video evidence, Everett insists she did nothing wrong. Speaking through tears in an interview with WAVY, she argued that the footage did not show the full story.
“They’re going off of one angle,” Everett claimed while visibly sobbing.
Then, she attempted to explain away the obvious assault with an almost comical excuse.
“After a couple times of hitting her, my baton got stuck behind her back like this, and it rolled up her back. I lost my balance when I pumped my arms again. She got hit,” she stated.
Even more astonishingly, Everett denied any malicious intent.
“I know my intentions and I would never hit someone on purpose,” she said.
Instead of taking responsibility, Everett painted herself as the real victim. She claimed she had been subjected to racist death threats since the video surfaced.
“Everybody has feelings, so you’re physically hurt, but you’re not thinking of my mental, right?” she asked, breaking down in tears.
“They are assuming my character, calling me ghetto and racist slurs, death threats, all of this just because of a nine-second video,” she added.
Everett’s mother, Zeketa Cost, is standing by her daughter, dismissing the undeniable footage and saying she has no doubt that her daughter did not act intentionally.
“I didn’t have to see a first video, second video, or tenth video. I know 100 percent that she would never do that to nobody,” Cost asserted.
Meanwhile, Tucker’s parents are demanding accountability. They told WSLS they expect an apology from Everett and her coach. However, according to WAVY, Everett is willing to apologize but complains that Tucker is “not receptive” and has blocked her on social media.

In another development, the Everett family has been served with court papers as the Tucker family seeks a protective order. This move has enraged Everett’s father, Genoa, who expressed frustration over the legal fallout.
“It doesn’t seem right that this would happen and now we have to go to a city three hours away that everyone hates our guts already,” he said.
The evidence is clear. A young athlete was violently struck with a baton during a race, suffered a serious injury, and the person responsible refuses to accept accountability. Instead, Everett and her family are doubling down, claiming victimhood, despite overwhelming video proof of what happened.
While Tucker recovers from her injuries, the question remains: will justice be served, or will Everett’s excuses be enough to escape the consequences of her actions?
