A shocking incident at a Virginia track championship has left one young athlete injured and another scrambling to explain herself. The disturbing attack, caught on video, shows a runner from IC Norcom High School viciously striking a rival in the head with a baton. Now, the accused athlete is offering an excuse that defies belief.
Brookville High School junior Kaelen Tucker was competing in the 4×200 meter relay at the VHSL Class 3 State Indoor Championships when the violent encounter occurred. Tucker, a talented sprinter who had already won a silver medal in the girls’ 55m dash, was running the second leg of the relay when her competitor, Alaila Everett, slowed down, pulled her arm back, and forcefully struck Tucker in the back of the head with her baton.

The force of the blow sent Tucker stumbling off track, clutching her head before collapsing as stunned spectators gasped in horror. She suffered a concussion and a possible skull fracture from the attack.
