Texas Bakery RAIDED—Illegals Found Hiding!

>> Continued From the Previous Page <<

ICE Raid Uncovers Disturbing Living Conditions

Law enforcement agents executed the raid on February 12, following a tip received in December. Special Agent Dillon Duke testified that six of the arrested individuals were on temporary visas that did not permit them to work in the U.S. While officials could not confirm whether their visas had expired, all six were swiftly deported to Mexico.

Beyond illegal employment, the raid revealed troubling living conditions. Authorities discovered an apartment adjacent to the bakery where several workers were housed. Duke described the space as a single rectangular room lined with six beds, two bathrooms, and no kitchen. The windows were covered with cardboard, indicating an attempt to obscure visibility.

Underpaid Workers or Exploited Labor?

The original tip alleged that the bakery owners were employing workers without pay. However, when questioned, an employee told authorities he was receiving $8 per hour. It remains unclear whether the reported wages were consistent across all employees or if some were subjected to exploitation.

ICE agents also interrogated Baez and Avila-Guel, who reportedly admitted they were aware their employees lacked work authorization. Yet, their defense attorneys argued that providing shelter did not equate to hiding workers from authorities. They insisted that no evidence suggested employees were prohibited from leaving the apartment.

Judge Rejects Defense, Sets High Bond

Despite the defense’s claims, the judge overseeing the case did not buy the argument. He ruled that the couple’s actions constituted illegal harboring and set their bail at $100,000 each, requiring a $15,000 cash deposit for release.

The case highlights the broader issue of illegal labor practices and raises serious questions about the responsibility of business owners in enforcing immigration laws. With the Biden administration’s policies under scrutiny and Texas at the epicenter of the border crisis, cases like these fuel the ongoing debate over immigration enforcement.

For now, Abby’s Bakery is in hot water, and its owners are facing the full force of the law. The arrest serves as a stark reminder that harboring illegal immigrants is a crime with real consequences, no matter how small the business.
