What began as a routine flight from Mexico ended in a fiery nightmare on a Texas highway Tuesday night, leaving one person dead, multiple people injured, and stunned motorists witnessing a scene straight out of a disaster movie.
A private business jet carrying six people crashed onto a busy roadway in Laredo, Texas, shortly after 10 p.m., erupting into flames and breaking apart upon impact.
Within moments, ordinary Americans rushed toward the wreckage instead of away from it.
Video circulating online shows civilians and first responders desperately working to free survivors trapped inside the burning aircraft. Some used tools, including a sledgehammer, to break through the damaged cockpit area as smoke poured from the wreckage.
The dramatic rescue effort may have saved lives.
According to local authorities, the aircraft involved was a NetJets-operated Cessna Citation Latitude business jet. The plane had departed from San José del Cabo, Mexico, and was originally headed for Austin before being redirected toward Laredo.
