Stunning Poll Shows Democrats at Historic Low

Fox News Poll Shows Massive Disapproval for Congressional Democrats

According to the latest numbers from Fox News, 70 percent of Americans disapprove of congressional Democrats.

Seventy percent.

That figure represents the highest level of disapproval the network has recorded for the party in the history of the poll. And notably, this isn’t coming from a conservative activist group or a partisan campaign operation. It comes from one of the most widely watched news networks in the country.

The numbers are particularly painful for the leadership team headed by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries.

For comparison, congressional Republicans are also underwater with voters, posting a 64 percent disapproval rating in the same survey.

That number is certainly not flattering.

But Democrats are still performing worse — a striking development for a party that has spent years arguing it represents a more responsible governing alternative.

Polling Slide Has Been Building for Over a Year

What makes the situation even more difficult for Democrats is that the collapse in public support didn’t happen overnight.

The trend has been developing for months.

Back in December 2025, a survey from Quinnipiac University found that Democrats had fallen to just 18 percent approval among registered voters, marking the lowest level ever recorded by the pollster since it began tracking the question in 2009.

Even more concerning for party leaders, dissatisfaction wasn’t limited to Republicans or independents.

Large numbers of Democratic voters themselves were unhappy with their own party’s performance in Congress. The Quinnipiac survey found 48 percent of registered Democrats disapproved of how their party was handling its responsibilities in Washington.

Political data analyst Harry Enten of CNN summed up the situation bluntly, remarking that Democratic polling numbers had sunk “lower than the Dead Sea.”

Discontent Is Growing Even Inside the Democratic Base

Perhaps the most revealing finding from the Fox News poll is where the dissatisfaction is coming from.

It isn’t just Republicans and independents.

Among Democrats themselves, only 62 percent say they approve of their party’s congressional leadership.

By contrast, Republican voters appear more unified behind their own leadership, with 77 percent approving of Republican leaders in Congress.

The contrast highlights a growing divide inside Democratic ranks.

Throughout 2025, Democratic lawmakers held press conferences, delivered fiery speeches on the House and Senate floors, and organized rallies aimed at pushing back against the administration of Donald Trump.

But many Democratic voters appear to believe those efforts produced little tangible impact.

Despite months of opposition messaging, Democrats were unable to stop several major policy initiatives. Critics inside the party point to failed attempts to block programs such as DOGE-related initiatives, deportation policies, and tariff actions.

The result, according to frustrated voters, has been a year filled with political theater but limited legislative victories.

Chuck Schumer’s Personal Numbers Take a Hit

The frustration is also showing up in polling for individual leaders.

A survey from Gallup found that Chuck Schumer’s approval rating among Democratic voters has dropped to 39 percent.

That is a dramatic decline from just two years earlier, when his approval rating within the party stood at 76 percent.

Other polling paints a similar picture.

A mid-2025 survey conducted by The Wall Street Journal reported that Democrats were experiencing their lowest favorability rating in more than three decades.

The party’s net favorability score plunged to negative 30 points, while 63 percent of voters said Democrats were “out of touch” with everyday Americans.

For a party that frequently centers its messaging around working-class voters, that label could prove politically damaging.

Key Issues Show Tight Race Ahead of 2026

While media coverage often focuses heavily on Trump’s job approval numbers, other polling results may be just as important heading toward the 2026 midterm elections.

On border security, for example, Trump currently holds a 52 percent approval rating, according to recent polling.

That means a majority of voters say they support his approach to the issue.

Meanwhile, when voters were asked which party they trust more to handle the cost of living — widely considered the top economic concern in the country — the results were surprisingly close.

Democrats received 31 percent support.

Trump received 32 percent.

Just a single percentage point separates them.

After months of political messaging, protests, town halls, and rallies from Democratic leaders including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the numbers suggest voters remain divided — and skeptical.

A Difficult Road Toward the 2026 Midterms

Ultimately, the 29 percent approval rating for congressional Democrats reflects more than partisan criticism.

It represents feedback from the entire electorate — including independents and Democratic voters themselves.

And with fewer than one in three Americans expressing approval of the party’s performance in Congress, Democratic strategists face a steep challenge heading into the next election cycle.

Many commentators in the media have predicted that the 2026 midterms could turn into a wave election.

But polling like this suggests a different question may be looming over Washington:

Whether a party struggling to win the confidence of its own voters can generate the kind of momentum needed to ride a political wave at all.
