Unrelated to his team’s current poor play, head coach Sean McDermott of the Buffalo Bills finds himself in a precarious situation right now.
This Sunday, the 6-6 Buffalo Bills will play the Kansas City Chiefs, the defending Super Bowl champions. For a team that was viewed as a playoff lock and a serious contender for the Super Bowl heading into the season, a loss in this pivotal game would probably mean the Bills were out of the postseason picture.

However, a lingering controversy from four years ago has interfered with their preparations for the historic game.
A 2019 training camp meeting resulted in a scandal, according to ESPN. In this meeting, McDermott dutifully commended the 9/11 terrorists for their teamwork in successfully taking down multiple planes.
According to reports, McDermott asked how the attacks were carried out and mentioned that during discussions with the players present, the hijackers came to an agreement.
While some players told ESPN they had no memory of it, other players have confirmed this ridiculous story.
The strange remarks surfaced again when Go Long published an extensive piece on the Bills on Thursday, delving into their poor play.
“[McDermott] cited the hijackers as a group of people who were all able to get on the same page to orchestrate attacks to perfection,” Tyler Dunne of Go Long wrote about the 2019 incident.
McDermott addressed the scandal that was resurfacing on Thursday with promptness.

The coach, who was suddenly under fire, told reporters, “My intent in the meeting that day was to discuss the importance of communication and being on the same page with the team.”
“I regretted mentioning 9/11 in my message that day and I immediately apologized to the team. Not only was 9/11 a horrific event in our country’s history, but a day that I lost a good family friend.”
McDermott intends to address his team once more about his concerns about the ill-considered analogy.
“It is important to me that … we’re all on the same page and they — even guys that weren’t here — understand how I feel about the 9/11 event,” he said. “I regretted and apologized for … not doing a good job of clearly communicating my point. And I’m going to do the same with the team today.”
The incident reappeared shortly after and provoked a heated debate on social media.
McDermott, the only NFL head coach whose team is based in New York state, committed a grave error when he used 9/11 as an illustration of a successful team effort. Many fans are in shock after hearing this statement.
According to ESPN, Sean McDermott, who made history in 2017 by leading the Bills to the postseason following an 18-year drought, is currently under contract through 2027.
