That was not accidental.
“Steak n Shake is getting a head start on America’s 250th anniversary of its founding,” the company posted on X.
Regular vanilla shakes at Steak ’n Shake typically sell for $4.99. That means customers save about 50 percent when they order the Patriot Milkshake, which comes topped with red, white, and blue sprinkles and a small American flag.
The company is taking a loss on every single shake.
In an era where most chains raise prices without blinking, Steak ’n Shake chose to lower them to honor American history.
That decision alone separates them from nearly every other national brand.
Patriotism Backed By Action, Not Slogans
The milkshake did not come out of nowhere.
Steak ’n Shake has spent the last year building a clear record of action that backs up its words.
Earlier in 2025, the chain announced it was ditching vegetable oils and returning to beef tallow for frying. The move aligned with Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s Make America Healthy Again push.
“We RFK’ed our fries,” COO Daniel Edwards told Fox & Friends.
Then came another announcement that stunned corporate critics.
Steak ’n Shake pledged that every restaurant would install “the tallest and biggest American flag that local governments will allow.”
Not small decorations. Not subtle gestures.
Big flags. As big as the law allows.
“Steak n Shake proudly supports American values and traditions,” the company declared.
That statement caught the attention of some high profile Americans.
Elon Musk responded, “I’m ordering from there tomorrow!”
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna wrote, “If we didn’t already love @SteaknShake enough: Thank you.”
Actor James Woods said the chain was “setting an excellent example for all of us.”
Standing Firm When Others Fold
Steak ’n Shake also made waves by openly challenging other corporations.
The company honored Charlie Kirk following his September 10 assassination, calling him “a devoted husband and father, a powerful voice for freedom, and a courageous champion for conservative values.”
Later, Steak ’n Shake even put up a billboard calling on Cracker Barrel to fire its CEO after the brand abandoned long held traditions.
“At Steak ’n Shake, we take pride in our history, our families, and American values,” the company posted. “All are welcome. We will never market ourselves away from our past in a cheap effort to gain the approval of trend seekers.”
That message landed hard at a time when many major brands were retreating from the backlash of woke activism.
Why The Pricing Matters
What truly sets Steak ’n Shake apart is not the flag or the sprinkles.
It is the price.
McDonald’s charges nearly five dollars for a shake. Wendy’s does the same. Burger King is not discounting anything for America’s birthday.
Steak ’n Shake looked at the semiquincentennial and chose to tie the price directly to its meaning.
The chain is giving up $2.49 per shake to make a statement.
Brand expert Beau Johnson told Fox News the strategy “underscores its commitment to patriotism but also clearly signals its intent to appeal to a defined segment of the marketplace.”
In plain terms, Steak ’n Shake understands that millions of Americans are tired of companies that treat patriotism like a problem.
Crystal Gorges noted that “flying big flags is a simple but powerful way to remind people of that heritage.”
The Patriot Milkshake takes that message even further.
A Bet On America
America turns 250 years old on July 4, 2026.
President Trump created the White House Task Force on Celebrating America’s 250th Birthday to help coordinate national events.
“With a single sheet of parchment and 56 signatures, America began the greatest political journey in human history,” Trump said.
Steak ’n Shake did not wait until the last minute. They launched their patriotic promotion months early.
The company also accepts Bitcoin at all U.S. locations, another move that aligns with Trump era economic thinking.
Owner Sardar Biglari took control of Steak ’n Shake in 2008 when the company was bleeding $100,000 a day. He led a turnaround that produced 24 straight quarters of same store sales growth and daily profits.
Now, while brands like Disney, Target, and Bud Light struggle under the weight of woke backlash, Steak ’n Shake is betting on something different.
Patriotism.
Any company can slap a flag on a cup and charge full price.
Only Steak ’n Shake had the conviction to price a shake at $2.50 to honor 250 years of American history.
That is how you prove you actually believe in what you are selling.
