A new statewide survey has just sent shockwaves through Virginia politics — and it’s bad news for Democrats.
A fresh Trafalgar Group poll revealed that embattled Democrat Jay Jones, the party’s nominee for attorney general, is plummeting in support following a disturbing text message scandal that’s ignited national outrage. The numbers show voters are turning fast — and the fallout could spill into the state’s closely watched governor’s race.
GOP Surges as Jones’ Scandal Deepens
According to Trafalgar’s results, Republican incumbent Attorney General Jason Miyares now leads with 48.9 percent support among likely voters. Jones, once the polling favorite, trails far behind at 43.1 percent. Roughly eight percent remain undecided — a critical bloc that could seal Jones’ fate if his campaign continues to unravel.
Jones’ troubles began when texts he sent in 2022 resurfaced, showing violent threats toward a fellow lawmaker. In one shocking message to a colleague, Jones wrote that he wanted to put “two bullets” in the head of then–Republican House Speaker Todd Gilbert. The situation worsened when it was revealed that he later threatened Gilbert’s wife and children during a phone call.
