A pre-dawn jet crash in Southern California left six dead Thursday—including a drummer beloved in the heavy metal scene and a trailblazing music mogul who launched some of the biggest acts in the 2000s. The sudden tragedy has sent shockwaves through the entertainment world and beyond.
Authorities say a private Cessna 550 Citation, en route from New Jersey with a refueling stop in Kansas, went down around 3:45 a.m. in San Diego’s Murphy Canyon neighborhood, an area known for housing military families. The plane ignited multiple fires upon impact, lighting up the early morning sky and shaking homes to their foundations.
Among the dead were drummer Daniel Williams, best known for his time with Christian metalcore band The Devil Wears Prada, and music executive Dave Shapiro, whose influence helped shape the hard rock and metal landscape for more than two decades.
Williams had posted a now-haunting Instagram photo before takeoff, boarding the doomed flight alongside Shapiro. The band’s social media page later confirmed the devastating news with a heartbreaking tribute:
“No words. We owe you everything. Love you forever.”
