The latest dispute erupted after the newspaper reported that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers had allegedly been informed that the FBI would no longer investigate certain confrontations involving immigration enforcement operations. The article quickly fueled accusations from critics of the Trump administration, who argued the alleged policy shift would shield federal immigration officers from accountability.
However, the administration forcefully rejected the report almost immediately.
