Ohio Family’s River Trip Ended in Chaos

A peaceful family outing along an Ohio river ended in one of the state’s deadliest water tragedies of the summer after five relatives lost their lives trying to save one another, leaving two young children without the family members who had been with them just moments before.

Authorities say the heartbreaking chain of events unfolded Sunday evening along the Scioto River near Powell, Ohio, where several members of the same family had gathered to spend time together. What began as a routine day outdoors quickly turned into a desperate rescue attempt that claimed multiple lives.

According to investigators, the family had reportedly been fishing earlier in the day before anyone entered the river. At some point, one adult decided to go into the water for a swim. Officials believe the current was much stronger than it appeared, and the swimmer soon found himself in serious trouble.
