Due to popular and judicial opposition, New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham drops her proposal to forbid gun owners from carrying weapons in Albuquerque and the surrounding areas.
Lujan Grisham’s executive action demonstrates her continued commitment to creating gun-free zones.
The governor used a “public health order” on September 8 to try and limit gun ownership in Albuquerque and Bernalillo County. Don’t worry though; local and state authorities are refusing to impose this contentious restriction. In order to stop it from being put into effect, a judge has even granted a temporary restraining order. Keep up with the most recent developments in this important case.
Lujan Grisham announces his position on gun control, although he doesn’t entirely reject it.
Despite modifications, the new ordinance still forbids gun owners from carrying weapons in spaces intended for children’s play. However, as mentioned in the statewide order, this limitation is mostly restricted to Albuquerque and Bernalillo County.
While attending to other aspects of the order, draw the attention of the state organizations in charge of behavioral health and prisons.
According to KRQE-TV, Lujan Grisham said at a news conference on Friday that she is committed to crack down on drug activities.
According to Lujan Grisham, law enforcement in “all jurisdictions” should “coordinate their efforts to make sure open, illicit, substance abuse, drug use is being addressed.”
New Mexico “cannot allow illicit [drug] activity to occur,” she said.
“The state has not actively been dealing with that accountability for a number of reasons. Not the least of which is treatment, incarceration, situations where we can’t get people booked; we don’t have enough prosecutors, any number of barriers,” she said.

Greg Baca, a Republican senator, claims that the statement made on Friday was obviously politicized and that no Republicans were invited.
“It was noticeable who was attending the press conference. I know that myself and I really have no knowledge of any other Republican that was invited to the press conference,” he said.
Baca was enraged by the government’s finger-pointing during the press conference when she introduced her new executive order.
“Too many members, not all of them, Republicans both in Congress, elected leaders in the country, and our own statewide party, offer no solutions to addressing public safety in our state,” she said.
According to Baca, the GOP’s proposals to abolish bail for criminals and adopt stiffer punishments for repeat offenders were rejected during the current parliamentary session.
“We need everybody involved. What you saw today at the press conference was one side, that leaves out half of the state out of the discussion and we think that’s wrong,” he said.
He thinks Lujan Grisham is looking in the wrong areas for solutions, especially when it comes to a child’s untimely death.
“The focus has been, now, on guns. We need to be focusing on the individual who murdered this child. Where is the outcry to find this child’s killer? I have not heard that from the executive branch,” he said.
