Navy Pilots Down: Red Sea ‘Friendly Fire’ Shocker!

In a stunning turn of events over the weekend, two U.S. Navy pilots found themselves ejected from their aircraft and floating in the Red Sea after a shocking friendly fire mishap. The U.S. military confirmed the incident, calling it a “friendly fire incident” that involved a guided missile cruiser mistakenly targeting a fighter jet from the same battle group. Thankfully, both pilots survived, with only one sustaining minor injuries.

The aircraft, an F/A-18 Super Hornet from Strike Fighter Squadron 11, had launched from the deck of the USS Harry S. Truman. Known as the “Red Rippers,” the squadron operates out of Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia. The jet was taken down by the USS Gettysburg, a guided missile cruiser escorting the Truman. Despite advanced radar and communication systems meant to prevent such incidents, the Gettysburg somehow identified the fighter as a hostile target, leading to the shocking mishap.
