Trump’s CIA Purge Just Began

President Donald Trump is wasting little time following a major leadership change inside America’s intelligence apparatus, and longtime Washington insiders may soon find themselves in unfamiliar territory.

After the unexpected departure of former Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, Trump moved swiftly to install Bill Pulte as acting DNI, placing him at the center of one of the most powerful positions in the federal government. The appointment has already ignited speculation that sweeping reforms could be coming to agencies that many conservatives have long accused of operating beyond proper oversight.

Unlike a permanent nominee, Pulte is stepping into the role under the Federal Vacancies Reform Act, allowing him to assume the position immediately without first enduring what would likely be a bruising Senate confirmation battle. That temporary status gives him considerable authority from day one while avoiding months of political warfare in Washington.

Trump made clear that he views the intelligence community as an area in desperate need of restructuring.

“I’d like to see it smaller. I think there are a lot of people in there that shouldn’t be there,” Trump said.
