In his piece published in The Bulwark, Stein alleged that Republican leadership in the House had dealt a significant blow to pediatric cancer research during recent budget negotiations. He wrote that medical research, particularly for children with cancer, suffered as GOP lawmakers pushed for cuts in the federal budget. Stein further claimed that a revised funding bill excluded provisions that would have improved access to cutting-edge pediatric cancer treatments and extended financial incentives for pharmaceutical companies developing treatments for rare diseases.

“But some of the hardest cuts to swallow involved medical research,” Stein wrote.
