McConnell’s Retirement: What We Know so Far

Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY), who has been on Capitol Hill for nearly 40 years and has served as the Senate’s minority leader since 2007, might be nearing the end of his career. Many members are already making arrangements for life when he departs because of the crucial role he has played in advancing congressional priorities over his 38 years of service to Americans across party lines.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who had a major fall last month while at a private dinner at the Waldorf Astoria in Washington, has still not left the hospital. Senators John Thune (R-SD), John Cornyn (R-TX), and John Barrasso (R-WY) reportedly began significant discussions with their fellow Republicans about the possibility of holding an official vote for leadership replacement as worries about his ability to carry out his duties rose. The Spectator further asserts that these people are considering how to structure such ballots and any applicable rules pertaining to them.

Sen. McConnell’s age has come under scrutiny due to his extended time in Congress and many health issues. It would start a chain reaction that would result in political intrigue and American history being made through subsequent votes for Congressional leaders if he were to leave the Senate or his leadership position.

In an effort to put a stop to speculations and convince supporters of his upcoming return on April 17, Senator McConnell turned to social media.

Despite being the member of Congress with the longest tenure, Senator Dianne Feinstein has been gone from Capitol Hill for the majority of this year. She continues working diligently remotely from home at the amazing age of 89, despite being hospitalized with shingles since March and supposedly not been given the go-ahead by her doctor to resume. During this time, she has missed 60 out of 82 votes on significant Senate Judiciary Committee rulings.

  1. The BEST THING that can happen is that McConnell will get his OLD TIRED WRINKLED ASS out of the Senate and get a real leader in there. Then we will make real progress in this country

  2. I think there ought to be limit on time _in Congress_, say 12 years. If you serve 8 years in the House and get elected to the Senate, you could only serve 4 years there. And cut Congressional pay by half.
