Killed NY Swan’s Secret: Not Just a Random Bird!

Meet the adored local superstars of Manlius, New York, Faye the Mute Swan and Manny. They seduce the residents of the upstate New York town with their exquisite elegance.

Swans have served as the town’s mascot since 1905 and have held this position for many years.

“Central New York loves Manny and Faye,” Local Syracuse station WSYR-TV announced last year. “You can see this dynamic duo in the Manlius Swan Pond off Fayette Street near the village offices.”

Faye had been here before, but it wasn’t until Memorial Day weekend that her absence was noticed.

Residents who were worried informed police and offered video evidence. Authorities watched the video and found that not only was the mother swan, Faye, missing, but so were her four cygnets, who had just hatched.

According to reports, Manlius Police will provide mixed news at a press conference on Wednesday.

Wonderful news! Two of the four cygnets were found and saved at a shopping center, while the other two were recovered at a nearby house.

The news that Faye was not only killed but also eaten is truly horrifying.

Whoa, what?

The town mascot was eaten during Memorial Day festivities when people were grilling burgers and hot dogs, according to a spokeswoman for the Manlius Police Department.

“Three suspects — teens that are neighborhood friends and went to high school together — hopped the Manlius Swan Pond fence between midnight and 3 a.m., Saturday into Sunday,” the report said.

According to Police Sgt. Ken Hatter, Faye the bird did not fight being captured while she was nesting.

She was cut off with a knife by the teenagers, who then brought her corpse home where she was cooked and eaten, according to Hatter.

Aged 18, 17, and 16, the suspects pled innocent.

“They believed it was just a very large duck,” Hatter said. “They did not know it was a swan.”

Seriously? Three seniors in high school couldn’t identify a swan?

Police claim that the teens’ non-American “cultural beliefs” were responsible for their actions at the duck meal.

Did the past of their nation influence how they acted? Consider Venezuela, where residents have resorted to killing zoo animals to feed themselves during periods of extreme famine. Is this the cause of how they behaved?

It turns out that wasn’t the reason.

“It wasn’t because they were lacking in food,” The New York Times cited what Hatter stated. “They were hunting.”

The teenage “hunters” claimed to the police that they believed Faye to be a wild animal while in fact, they were ignorant that she was a villager.

“They did not have any idea of the significance that the swans had on this community,” According to The Syracuse Post-Standard, Hatter stated.

Seriously? They missed the “Welcome to Manlius” signs with swan illustrations that were posted all across the city. Don’t you find it a little unbelievable?

“If you drive through the village, you’ll see the swan emblems and signs and banners everywhere,” Paul Whorrall, the mayor, told The Times.

Eman Hussan, a resident of Syracuse, was detained and charged with two crimes along with two young children, whose identities were withheld owing to their age. The Post-Standard reports that the accusations include third-degree grand theft, second-degree criminal mischief, fifth-degree conspiracy, and third-degree criminal trespass.

Watch out! Extra charges could be brought by the Department of Environmental Conservation.

Concerns are raised by the suspect’s facial expression after being apprehended.

The Times’ description of it “Mr. Hussen … appeared to smile as he was being led to a police vehicle in handcuffs.”

This young man had a broad grin from ear to ear, not just a smile that “appeared to smile.” It was obvious that he was enjoying his 15 minutes of fame.

Will the poachers who killed Faye merely face a little punishment? There have been complaints and requests for action, with some calling for lengthy prison terms. Join others in requesting justice for Faye by signing the petition at AnimalVictory.org.

These young lads were completely aware of the uproar their acts would cause among the public and the police. It’s tough to contest that they had clear and intentional aims.

Teenagers that jump fences at 3 in the morning are not seen as trustworthy, regardless of their background. This is applicable to everyone, including those who are not familiar with swans.

Young men who are accused of committing a crime deserve a fair trial and the proper punishments. If found guilty, they could understand how crucial it is to abide by American customs and regulations.

If the crime is excused on the grounds that the suspected offenders were young and unfamiliar with local laws and customs, it could serve as a warning to both law-abiding individuals and potential “hunters.”

It’s exciting to see how the scenario plays out.

As a poignant representation of ongoing change in Manlius and the entire country, Manny the swan will now live alone on Swan Pond.
