When anti-ICE agitators turned violent outside a federal facility in Illinois, the White House responded with overwhelming force. Two hundred Texas National Guard troops have been deployed on a 60-day mission to defend Immigration and Customs Enforcement personnel after coordinated attacks left agents cornered and outnumbered.

Federal Response After “Coordinated Assault”

According to the Pentagon, the deployment came “in support of the Federal Protection Mission to protect federal functions, personnel, and property” amid what they described as “escalating violence” near the ICE facility in Broadview, Illinois.

The move followed a harrowing incident where federal agents were “rammed and boxed in by 10 cars”, described by DHS Secretary Kristi Noem as a “coordinated assault.” Roughly a dozen protesters have been arrested following days of unrest organized by anti-immigration activists.

Governor Greg Abbott confirmed that Texas stepped up where Illinois failed, writing on X that the Guard is “on the ground and ready to go.” Abbott added, “They are putting America first by ensuring that the federal government can safely enforce federal law.”
