In the film series, Banks portrayed Effie Trinket, a character initially depicted as a polished and loyal supporter of the Capitol’s authoritarian system. Over time, Effie’s storyline evolves as she begins to question the brutality of the regime and eventually breaks away from it. Banks pointed to that arc as a metaphor for political awakening.

During the podcast, she encouraged listeners to adopt a similar mindset of resistance, stating, “I wish more of us were becoming revolutionaries.”

Banks expanded further on her interpretation of the character, linking it directly to her political worldview. “Effie, for me, is one of the characters that has the greatest arc that I’ve ever played because, obviously, she props up this fascist regime that she benefits from,” Banks said.

She continued by describing Effie’s eventual moral shift in the story, adding, “It’s not until she really comes to care for and see how unfair it is when they want to pull Katniss and Peeta into the games again.”

While Banks has long been associated with Hollywood activism, her recent remarks come after a closely watched election cycle in which voter demographics once again played a central role. Post-election analysis from the Pew Research Center indicated that a majority of white women supported Trump in 2024, a result that continues to fuel political discussion among commentators and celebrities alike.

Banks herself was active on the campaign trail in the final stretch of the election, publicly supporting then–Vice President Kamala Harris. She participated in events tied to abortion rights advocacy and shared posts on social media encouraging voter engagement and turnout.

In one Instagram post from the final days of the campaign, Banks wrote, “19 DAYS until we elect @kamalaharris President of the United States! I joined my friends at @reproforallnv yesterday and jumped on Kamala’s Reproductive Freedom Bus in Las Vegas,”

She continued in the same post, emphasizing the stakes as she saw them at the time, writing, “Our rights, our freedom, and our access to health care are literally at stake. Please please please check your registration status and make a plan for Election Day. 19 days! Let’s go!”

Following the election, Banks has continued to reflect publicly on political themes, though she will not be returning to portray Effie Trinket in the next installment of the franchise. Actress Elle Fanning is set to play a younger version of the character in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, which is scheduled for release this fall.

Banks’ comments also prompted pushback from political observers and officials aligned with the Trump administration. White House spokesman Davis Ingle responded bluntly in a statement to Fox News Digital, saying, “Nobody in their right mind cares what out-of-touch woke celebrities in Hollywood say or think,” White House spokesman Davis Ingle said in a statement to Fox News Digital.

The exchange underscores the continuing cultural divide between Hollywood’s most outspoken political voices and a large segment of American voters who remain skeptical of celebrity-driven political messaging. As the post-election landscape continues to take shape, remarks like Banks’ are likely to remain part of the broader national debate over influence, culture, and political identity.
