Eric Holder has a knack for showing up at solemn events and turning them into political theater. This week was no exception.
During a gathering meant to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the former Obama Attorney General—who many conservatives still view as one of the most divisive figures to ever run the Justice Department—delivered a familiar message: America is supposedly sliding backward, and Republicans are to blame.
Holder went so far as to claim there is an active movement underway to “re-segregate” the United States.
That’s a dramatic accusation. It’s also one that feels carefully crafted for headlines and applause, not for truth.
Because if Holder truly believes segregation is returning, then he’s been strangely silent about one of the most obvious places where actual segregation has been encouraged in recent years: higher education.
