In a state that hasn’t seen a Republican victory since 2004, a major surge of early Republican voters in Nevada may be the game-changer this election cycle.
According to the Nevada Independent, Republican voters have outpaced their Democratic counterparts in early and mail-in voting—a rare occurrence in a state where Democrats typically dominate early voting. Historically, Democrats tend to avoid Election Day lines by casting their ballots early, yet the GOP has surged ahead, sending in 40,000 more ballots than Democrats, giving them a 5.3% advantage in early voting.

Veteran journalist Jon Ralston noted that while Clark County—home to a large portion of Nevada’s population—saw an influx of Democratic ballots overnight, it wasn’t enough to close the GOP’s growing lead. Republicans currently hold a 5.7% lead statewide, with tens of thousands more votes cast than Democrats.
