The FBI is facing a political firestorm after a group of former agents launched a lawsuit accusing Director Kash Patel and the federal government of purging bureau employees who aligned themselves with the Black Lives Matter movement. The allegations paint a picture of a sweeping crackdown that began the moment Patel assumed leadership.

According to the lawsuit, roughly a dozen agents insist they were targeted specifically because they kneeled during the height of the BLM riots. They say Patel set out “almost immediately” to remove anyone inside the bureau who had shown public support for the movement. Their argument boils down to this: kneeling wasn’t political activism, it was tactical genius.
Their legal team is leaning in hard. Mary Dohrmann of the Washington Litigation Group told POLITICO that Patel was guilty of “targeting these patriotic and highly skilled FBI agents for purely partisan reasons.” She didn’t stop there. “These partisan firings are the true weaponization of government,” she added. “The nation is less safe as a result.”
