The political and legal world was thrown into chaos Monday after Alina Habba, one of President Trump’s most recognizable legal fighters, abruptly resigned as acting U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey. Her exit comes on the heels of a devastating federal appeals court ruling that said her appointment never should have happened in the first place.
This wasn’t just another bureaucratic reshuffle. It was a direct strike against an administration that has relied heavily on temporary appointments to push its agenda through a hostile Senate. And now one of their top legal figures has been knocked off the board.
Habba revealed her resignation in a lengthy statement, insisting she was stepping aside to protect the institution rather than retreat from the fight. She made it crystal clear that she’s not going anywhere.
“Do not mistake compliance for surrender,” she wrote. “This decision will not weaken the Justice Department and it will not weaken me.”
