Former Trump administration border czar Tom Homan announced Monday that he has formally requested immigration records related to Rep. Ilhan Omar amid long-standing allegations that the Minnesota Democrat committed immigration fraud. The controversy centers on claims Omar married her brother to help him remain in the United States—a charge she has long denied but has never been formally prosecuted for.
Homan disclosed the move during an interview on Newsmax, explaining that he is reviewing the records as part of a renewed examination of claims that have lingered in the public sphere for years. “So pulling the records, now pulling the files and we’re looking at it. But this fraud investigator who I know personally, one of the best fraud investigators in HSI, Homeland Security Investigations, said there’s no doubt he reviewed the file. So I’m running that down this week, as a matter of fact. And we’ll see,” Homan said.
The controversy was reignited last week when former President Donald Trump addressed the allegations during a press appearance in the Oval Office, calling the claims “fraud.” Homan’s inquiry comes as part of a broader effort to revisit immigration fraud cases that may have been overlooked or inadequately investigated under previous administrations.
