During the Newsmax interview, host Bob Schmitt pressed Homan on the seriousness of the allegations and whether a formal investigation is underway. Schmitt asked, “(President Trump) calls that fraud. It’s a story that has never been successfully refuted, even though it’s now a five-year-old story. That’s clearly a deportable offense. Is there an investigation into that?”
Homan responded that he had been briefed by a fraud investigator who had previously reviewed Omar’s case. “You know, I just got advised by a fraud investigator the other day on that,” Homan said. “I asked the question, who reviewed the file, and said, you know, there was immigration fraud involved. The statute of limitation became an issue in the last four years … When this was first brought up, who was president, who ran DOJ?”
The former border chief emphasized that the records and files are now being carefully examined. Homan noted that a seasoned investigator with Homeland Security Investigations had previously concluded that immigration fraud had occurred, though the matter stalled due to timing and legal limitations. His team is now attempting to determine whether any actionable steps remain.
The case has dogged Omar since her early political career. Allegations that she married her brother to secure his legal residency surfaced repeatedly as she rose in politics, including a detailed report by the Daily Mail updated on March 10, 2020. Despite the serious nature of the claims, Omar has consistently denied any wrongdoing and has never faced criminal charges.
Omar appeared on CBS’s “Face the Nation” on Sunday, but the interview did not address the immigration fraud allegations. Conservatives, however, see Homan’s renewed scrutiny as an opportunity to hold powerful figures accountable and question whether political influence shielded Omar from consequences in the past.
Homan’s move underscores a broader conservative push to revisit cases that may have been mishandled or ignored under Democratic administrations. As the investigation unfolds, the public may finally gain clarity on allegations that have swirled for years without resolution.
