Florida Democrat Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick is under intense scrutiny as a growing ethics investigation unfolds around serious allegations of financial misconduct and potential corruption. The House Ethics Committee has been handed explosive findings by the Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE), triggering the next phase of a full-blown investigation into how federal dollars may have been diverted to a for-profit operation instead of a registered non-profit.
At the center of the controversy is a $5 million congressional earmark from the 2023 federal budget, money that was supposed to benefit the Figgers Foundation—a telemedicine nonprofit based in Florida. Instead, investigators allege those funds were routed to a for-profit business, raising red flags about potential abuse of taxpayer dollars.
OCE investigators stated there is “substantial reason to believe” Rep. Cherfilus-McCormick used her official position to secure funding for a community project, only to redirect that money to a private entity. This revelation follows nearly a year of digging into her financial dealings.
But the case doesn’t end there.
The OCE has also uncovered what it calls “probable cause” to believe the congresswoman may have taken campaign donations tied to official government actions—another major ethics violation if proven true.
