At the core of De Niro’s message was a claim that the current administration is disconnected from voter priorities. “Trump isn’t paying attention to what we voted for,” he declared, reinforcing his argument that grassroots activism is necessary to counter the administration’s agenda.
But it was his call to action that raised eyebrows.
De Niro urged supporters to engage in multiple forms of participation, beginning with protests. “First, vote with your feet in the nonviolent No Kings demonstration on March 28th,” he said. He then escalated his rhetoric with a controversial line: “But we will get his attention in the November elections. That’s why I’m asking you to vote three times,” he said.
While his statement appeared to reference different forms of civic engagement rather than literal multiple ballots, critics were quick to highlight the phrasing as reckless in an already heated political climate.
He continued by encouraging supporters to dedicate time and energy to organizing efforts. “And second, you have to vote by answering the call to fight this insane administration,” he said, tying activism directly to political opposition.
De Niro made clear that the ultimate objective remains the ballot box. “And finally, third, vote in the election November 3rd. That is the ultimate goal. But first, you have to vote by joining the No Kings demonstrations,” he added, outlining a strategy that blends protest with electoral participation.
The actor warned that failing to engage could have serious consequences for the future of the country. “And if you don’t do both of those, you may never get to vote at all. It’s crazy, but it’s come to that. So now, it’s up to you. It’s up to all of us,” he said.
This is not the first time De Niro has sounded the alarm.
In a February interview, he doubled down on his criticism, suggesting the United States is facing a crisis from within rather than from foreign adversaries. Speaking candidly, he warned of long-term consequences if Trump’s influence continues to grow.
“This is about our country imploding. It’s not like something outside, it’s something inside. And we can’t allow it. If we allow Trump to go any further, he’ll just take more and more,” De Niro said.
He also framed the upcoming elections as a defining moment, leaving little room for ambiguity about his intentions. “The goal is to get rid of Trump,” De Niro said. “I don’t even use the word ‘hope’ anymore, but the midterms are crucial, as everybody knows. The goal is to get rid of Trump. Because everything goes if he’s not gotten rid of,” he said.
The latest remarks come amid an ongoing public feud between De Niro and Trump, which has played out across interviews, public appearances, and protest events. The actor has become a regular presence at demonstrations, including a recent appearance in Washington timed to coincide with a presidential address to Congress.
As political tensions continue to escalate, De Niro’s comments are likely to fuel further debate over the role of celebrity activism, the tone of political discourse, and the boundaries of acceptable rhetoric in a deeply divided nation.
