Michigan Democrats have chosen their Senate nominee, and Republicans believe they may have been handed an opportunity they could not have designed themselves.
Abdul El-Sayed emerged from the Democratic primary after building a campaign around an unapologetically progressive agenda, high-profile alliances, and direct confrontation with President Donald Trump.
Now, he appears eager to make Trump a central figure in the Michigan Senate race.
That could prove to be a risky strategy.
