Republican voters in Texas delivered a thunderous political message Tuesday night, sending longtime Congressman Dan Crenshaw packing in a decisive primary upset that reverberated across the national GOP landscape.

The former Navy SEAL, once considered a rising star in Republican politics, was defeated by Texas state Representative Steve Toth in the Republican primary for the state’s 2nd Congressional District. The loss was not close. Toth secured a commanding victory, winning by a margin that left little doubt about where Republican voters now stand.

For many observers, the result echoed another dramatic GOP primary from recent years. In 2022, former Wyoming Representative Liz Cheney lost her seat by a staggering 37-point margin after clashing with President Donald Trump and the party’s grassroots base. Now, Texas appears to have delivered a similar verdict.

The outcome of Tuesday’s race is already being interpreted by political analysts as another clear signal that Republican voters remain deeply aligned with Trump and increasingly skeptical of lawmakers viewed as insufficiently loyal to the MAGA movement.
