Iran may be facing a leadership nightmare as reports emerge that Mojtaba Khamenei, the 56-year-old son of slain Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, is fighting for his life. Sources inside Tehran claim he suffered catastrophic injuries that reportedly include the loss of at least one leg and severe internal trauma.
The elder Khamenei was killed on February 28 during coordinated U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran. While it is not confirmed whether Mojtaba was injured in that same attack, insiders suggest he is in no condition to take charge of a nation now roiling global energy markets with continued military aggression.
A source inside Tehran told The Sun that Mojtaba is under intensive care at Sina University Hospital, located in the capital’s historic district. “A section of the hospital has reportedly been sealed off and surrounded by intense security,” the source said.
Due to fears of retaliation, the source asked to remain anonymous but said he managed to bypass Iran’s near-total internet blackout to relay information to an exiled dissident in London. Though not a medical professional, he reportedly had contact with the hospital trauma team treating Mojtaba.
