Amazon Warns Mamdani: We’ll Move to New Jersey

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s latest labor push is running headfirst into a warning from one of the biggest companies operating in the five boroughs.

Amazon is sounding the alarm over the Delivery Protection Act, legislation that would dramatically restructure how last-mile packages reach New Yorkers. The company argues the proposal could raise delivery costs, threaten thousands of jobs, and ultimately push portions of its distribution network outside the city.

At the center of the fight is Intro 0518, which would require companies such as Amazon to directly employ workers making last-mile deliveries rather than relying on the network of independent delivery businesses currently handling much of that work.
