Breaking: Trump Forced to Cancel Campaign Stop

>> Continued From the Previous Page <<

As Secret Service agents prepared the restaurant for Trump’s visit earlier in the week, they ensured the venue met the security protocols for the former president’s campaign stop. However, the sudden loss of Gottlieb derailed these plans, and the campaign event was swiftly called off.

“It’s upsetting, community was looking [forward] to seeing him over here,” said Moses Weiser, a close friend of the Gottlieb family, in an interview with NBC New York. Many had traveled from near and far to see Trump at the family-owned restaurant. But as news of Gottlieb’s death spread, those waiting for the campaign appearance learned that Gottlieb’s Restaurant would remain closed until September 25, giving the family time to grieve.

The death of Sholem Yosef Gottlieb has left a significant impact on the Hasidic community in South Williamsburg. Many had come to rely on his warmth, his generosity, and his famous restaurant, a symbol of unity and togetherness. The sad news of his passing even reached visitors from around the world who were in the area for a food tour. NBC New York documented their reactions as they learned of the tragedy.

As the family mourns, local residents reflect on the deep legacy Gottlieb leaves behind. For many, the restaurant was more than just a place to eat—it was a beacon of community and tradition.

Meanwhile, in the political sphere, Trump continues to lead the race, holding firm despite an uptick in Democratic support following Vice President Kamala Harris’s entry into the presidential race. According to the latest New York Times/Siena poll, Trump currently enjoys the backing of 48% of likely voters, while Harris trails slightly at 47%.

Although these numbers remain consistent with prior polls taken after President Biden’s withdrawal from the race in July, political analysts suggest that the tight race between Trump and Harris may signal further shake-ups as the election draws closer.

The Times reported that while Harris has made strides among key demographics within the Democratic base, she faces challenges in gaining the trust of voters. Some 28% of respondents indicated they were still waiting for more clarity on her vision for the nation before committing their support. Conversely, only 9% of voters expressed similar hesitation about Trump’s policies.

“I don’t know what Kamala’s plans are,” said Dawn Conley, a 48-year-old small business owner from Knoxville, Tennessee, who is leaning toward voting for Trump. Her sentiment is echoed by others, as Harris struggles to resonate with traditionally strong Democratic voting blocs, including women and Latino voters.

In an additional sign of trouble for the Harris campaign, recent polling from NPR/PBS News/Marist reveals Trump has made significant inroads among traditionally Democratic voters. The latest data shows that Trump is now outperforming Harris among independents, leading by three percentage points—49% to 46%.

The poll also highlights a substantial shift in Latino support, where Trump has gained 19 points since August. Independents, too, have shifted toward Trump, with a gain of 14 points. These figures represent a sharp reversal from previous polling, where Harris had a double-digit lead.

This growing support for Trump among these key groups has bolstered his campaign, with many voters indicating that they see him as a candidate of change. According to the New York Times, 60% of respondents expressed a desire for significant changes from the policies of the Biden administration, and over half believe Trump is the one to deliver on that promise.

As the race tightens, both campaigns are gearing up for what promises to be a hard-fought battle in the months ahead. For now, however, the community in South Williamsburg will be focused on honoring the memory of Sholem Yosef Gottlieb, a man whose legacy of kindness and generosity will not soon be forgotten.

  1. I, in no way wish to disparage this fine man, his accomplishments, or the love the community had for him., But, there is an error in this article which needs to be cleared up. He was 75 years old, according to this article. Therefore he was born in 1949. If born in 1949 there is no way he could have been a Holocaust survivor, since all of those death camps were liberated in 1945, 4 years before his birth.
