The veteran senator wasted no time outlining his plans. In a public statement, McConnell said:
“America’s national security interests face the gravest array of threats since the Second World War. At this critical moment, a new Senate Republican majority has a responsibility to secure the future of U.S. leadership and primacy.
I intend to play an active role in this urgent mission as Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, and I look forward to working closely with incoming Chair Susan Collins to accomplish our shared goal.
The Senate Rules Committee will also have important work to accomplish in the 119th Congress, and I look forward to leading it as Chairman. Defending the Senate as an institution and protecting the right to political speech in our elections remain among my longest-standing priorities.
Ranking Member Deb Fischer has done an outstanding job advancing these causes, and I know she will remain a key partner in the committee’s ongoing work.”
Despite his reassurances, McConnell’s track record as a dealmaker with Democrats has drawn scrutiny from conservatives who feel he has too often compromised on key issues like judicial nominations, border security, and federal spending.
As Chair of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, McConnell will control significant funding decisions. Critics worry this could lead to further bloated budgets that prioritize Pentagon bureaucracy and foreign wars over domestic needs.
The Rules Committee chairmanship grants him authority over the structure and operation of Senate procedures, raising additional fears that McConnell will use this role to stifle conservative initiatives in favor of preserving the status quo.
The decision to empower McConnell is not sitting well with Trump loyalists. Many fear his leadership will result in roadblocks for President Trump’s conservative policies. McConnell has reportedly expressed opposition to Trump’s potential use of recess appointments, a critical tactic for overcoming Democrat-led obstruction.
Jane Mayer of The New Yorker previously revealed McConnell’s declaration during a Washington gathering: “There will be no recess appointments.” While the tweet was later deleted, other reporters, such as Andrew Desiderio of Punchbowl News, confirmed McConnell’s stance.

This adds to the growing list of grievances MAGA supporters have with the longtime senator. McConnell has been named alongside other so-called RINOs (Republicans in Name Only) such as Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Susan Collins (R-ME), Markwayne Mullin (R-OK), and Sen.-elect John Curtis (R-UT). These senators are accused of undermining key Trump allies, including their plans to vote against Matt Gaetz’s confirmation as Attorney General.
McConnell’s leadership of these critical committees comes at a pivotal moment for the GOP. With control over defense appropriations and Senate rules, his decisions will shape the trajectory of Republican priorities for the next two years. However, many conservatives see his rise to power as a step backward for the MAGA movement, fearing that McConnell’s establishment ties will overshadow the party’s commitment to bold, America First reforms.
As the 119th Congress begins, all eyes are on Mitch McConnell. Will he use his new authority to support Republican values, or will he once again prove to be an obstacle to conservative progress? For now, Trump supporters remain skeptical, with many bracing for what they view as inevitable betrayals.

I disagree McConnell block to move on trump plan. Trump did nothing wrong everything. Stop McConnell…
