An explosion rocked the Evonik Industries chemical plant in Theodore, Alabama, prompting a swift response from emergency personnel and HAZMAT teams. The incident, which occurred around 2:00 p.m., involved a railcar containing hydrogen peroxide, leading to significant damage but fortunately no serious injuries.
Emergency services were quickly mobilized following the explosion. The Mobile Fire-Rescue Department dispatched several units, including a specialized HAZMAT team, within minutes of the incident. According to a statement from Evonik, first responders were on the scene promptly and worked diligently to manage the situation. The company’s swift response, along with that of local authorities, played a crucial role in preventing further escalation.

The explosion resulted in considerable damage to two buildings within the plant, which is the largest Evonik facility in North America, employing around 750 people.
