The Travis County Jail has taken in and booked 28-year-old Paul Overeem. A third-degree felony charge of making a terroristic threat is being brought against him.

A Tesla security official reportedly told the police that Overeem had sent several violent threats on Instagram on November 9th. This information was reported by an outlet.

  • “I sure am crazy though”
  • “But yeah so at the Tesla event I’m planning an attach so up to you guys to stop me”
  • “I plan on killing people at that even ok November 30th and I would like you to do something about it so I don’t have to”
  • “I wanna die”
  • “I need to be stopped”
  • “If I’m saying I’m gonna kill people then you should take this seriously”

Overeem was discovered to be utilizing the username “ufotnoitalumis” in the Instagram chat group, per NBC News.

According to the network news outlet, he expressed his dissatisfaction with modern technology and bemoaned that the presence of electronics around him had restricted his mind for more than a year, as documented in an arrest warrant.

Using a phone number Instagram gave, investigators were able to locate Overeem in Austin the day before he had threatened to attack, according to an affidavit that NBC cited.

Overeem admitted to the police, according to KEYE, that he intended to hurt Elon Musk and Shivon Zilis, an executive at Neuralink who gave birth to twins with Musk in 2021. According to Overeem, he thought they were tracking him and using camera systems to watch him all the time.

KVUE-TV reported that on November 10, Tesla received a threat alert. The Travis County Sheriff’s Office opened an investigation on Tuesday after being notified. Two days prior to the Tesla incident, it was discovered that no formal police report had been filed. This was the catalyst for this.

“That same morning, Overeem’s 2015 black Chevrolet Tahoe was spotted by traffic cameras on Highway 290 in southwest Austin,” the TV station reported.

KVUE claims that his phone rang in west Austin the next morning.

“Authorities believe Overeem, who has no ties to Travis County, drove from Florida to Austin to potentially carry out the attack.”

As reported by KEYE, a SWAT team located and detained the suspect in a McDonald’s parking lot.

“He told officers that he had weapons in his car and said he was planning on committing suicide before he could be arrested,” the outlet reported.
