ESPN continues to have self-inflicted wounds.
The world’s most popular sports network routinely ignores the reality that consumers just want them to concentrate on sports only.

ESPN Takes Unpopular Stand on American Women’s Soccer Team
The legendary U.S. Women’s National Soccer team (USWNT) was ESPN’s perplexing selection for the Arthur Ashe bravery award at the ESPYs program.
There have been no title victories for the USWNT.
No one has ever accomplished the amazing accomplishment of scoring the winning goal while dealing with a broken leg or a really upsetting personal catastrophe.
Due to their influential new collective bargaining deal with U.S. soccer, which resulted in considerable remuneration for the players, ESPN rewarded the US Women’s National Team (USWNT).
The new “equal pay” rules now divide all revenue equally between the men’s and women’s soccer teams.
Despite not having played a single match, the women received an equal share of the $13 million prize money after the men’s team advanced to the round of 16 in the 2022 World Cup.
Social media users responded strongly to the denigration of a famous bravery award.

Peyton Hillis, a former running back for the Cleveland Browns and Denver Broncos, is gaining support on social media for receiving ESPN’s bravery award. When Hillis risked his life to save his son and niece from drowning, he showed extraordinary bravery.
“No disrespect, but HOW THE HELL is this not given to Peyton Hillis, who selflessly saved the lives of his son and niece while putting his life at risk and nearly dying?” ML football wrote.
“Women 1000% DESERVE equal pay, and it was amazing to see that get done. But what Peyton Hillis did, saving the lives of two young children while putting his own at risk, THERE IS NOTHING MORE COURAGEOUS IN THE WORLD ONE CAN DO,” ML football added.
The USWNT receiving accolades from ESPN is hardly shocking.
When their top player, Megan Rapinoe, voiced her dislike of Donald Trump and turned down the offer to visit the White House in 2019, the team rose to popularity as icons of social consciousness. In reaction to Trump’s criticism of players who show their disapproval of American injustices by kneeling during the national anthem, this action was taken.
“Thanks, but no thanks. I’m not going to the f***ing White House,” Rapino ranted. “No. I’m not going to the White House, I don’t think we’ll be invited, I doubt it.”
In line with ESPN’s philosophy, the USWNT was given this distinction for political reasons.
For his bravery and honesty in accepting his identity as a transgender person, Bruce Jenner prevailed in 2015 by winning the renowned Arthur Ashe award.
