Israel delivered a decisive blow to Tehran on Thursday, eliminating one of Iran’s highest-ranking military officials in a precise airstrike. The target: Alireza Tangsiri, head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy, whose recent actions threatened global energy routes.
The strike occurred in Bandar Abbas, a key port city along the Strait of Hormuz, Israel Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed. Tangsiri, 64, had been overseeing Iran’s aggressive move to block this crucial waterway, which carries roughly 20% of the world’s oil supply.
Tangsiri had publicly vowed to keep the strait closed under orders from Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei. “In response to the order of the commander-in-chief, we will deliver the harshest blows to the aggressor enemy while maintaining the strategy of closing the Strait of Hormuz,” he said, signaling Tehran’s willingness to escalate tensions.
His death adds to a growing list of high-level Iranian officials eliminated in recent months. Among them: IRGC spokesman Ali Mohammad Naini, political heavyweight Ali Larijani, and internal security enforcer Gholamreza Soleimani. Each removal signals a coordinated effort to weaken Iran’s command structure amid mounting regional pressure.
