Richard Kauffman, the newly appointed CEO of the Coalition for Green Capital, has a long history of financial backing for Democrats. Federal campaign filings show that since 2020, Kauffman has funneled more than $600,000 into Democrat coffers. His political past runs deep—he previously worked as a senior advisor to former President Barack Obama’s Secretary of Energy Steven Chu.
Chu, who played a key role in shaping Obama’s radical climate policies, made headlines in 2008 when he told The Wall Street Journal that gas prices in the U.S. should match the sky-high costs seen in Europe. At the time, European gas prices hovered around $9 to $10 per gallon.
Kauffman replaced Reed Hundt as CEO of the Coalition for Green Capital in January. Hundt, another well-connected Democrat donor, gave $10,000 to the Harris Victory Fund and the Democratic National Committee (DNC) last year. His political resume includes serving as chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) under former President Bill Clinton and being a close ally of climate activist and former Vice President Al Gore.
EPA Transformed Into a Political Cash Machine
The Biden EPA’s favoritism doesn’t stop with the Coalition for Green Capital. Other groups receiving billions from the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund include Power Forward Communities and Climate United—both deeply embedded in the Democrat ecosystem.
David Hayes, a board member of the Coalition for Green Capital, previously served as a climate advisor in the Biden administration. Cecilia Martinez, another board member, held a senior position on the White House Council on Environmental Quality. These are not just environmentalists—they are Biden insiders.
Parker Thayer of the Capital Research Center pulled no punches in describing the situation. “Coalition for Green Capital, like so many organizations funded by the Biden Administration, has no business receiving a dollar of funding from the federal government, much less billions of dollars,” Thayer told the Daily Caller. “It is plain to see that the organization is intended to be a slush fund for bailing out the floundering green energy investments of the Democratic Party’s biggest donors.”
