President Donald Trump is weighing in on one of the most closely watched Senate contests in the country, demanding that votes cast for two other Alaska candidates be credited to Republican incumbent Dan Sullivan as his reelection battle against Democrat Mary Peltola remains separated by a razor-thin margin.
With thousands of ballots still potentially influencing the outcome, Trump is challenging what he views as an unfair situation involving candidates whose names closely resemble that of the Republican senator. The president argued that votes going to those candidates should ultimately benefit Sullivan, whom he believes is the legitimate choice for Republican voters.
In a Thursday morning post on Truth Social, Trump made his position unmistakably clear.
“The vote totals for the fake Dan Sullivan, plus the other ‘slug’ that the Dems put on the ballot, should be immediately given to the real Dan Sullivan, and the election is over – he easily wins,” Trump wrote, asserting there was “no other fair solution!”
