Democrats spent months campaigning on the promise of making everyday life more affordable for American families. But barely had the votes been counted before Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) appeared to shift the party’s attention toward a familiar political battle: taking on President Donald Trump.
Following Democrats’ sweeping victories in Tuesday’s midterm elections, Schumer wasted little time outlining an aggressive strategy for the party’s return to congressional power. His message to the White House was unmistakable: Trump should expect investigations, legal challenges and a potentially relentless fight on Capitol Hill.
The New York Democrat, who is positioned to become Senate majority leader, made clear that his party intends to use its newly acquired congressional authority to challenge the administration whenever Democrats believe the president has crossed a legal or political line.
“Whenever Trump defies the will of the American people or the law,” Schumer said, according to the New York Post.
