Ex-SecDefs Revolt: Stop Trump’s Nominee!

>> Continued From the Previous Page <<

“We are deeply alarmed by President Trump’s recent dismissals of several senior U.S. military leaders. We write to urge the U.S. Congress to hold Mr. Trump to account for these reckless actions and to exercise fully its Constitutional oversight responsibilities.”

The letter points out that Brown’s termination came with no justification, despite his previous nomination by Trump and Senate confirmation. It raises concerns over the dismissal of other senior officers, including the Judge Advocates General of the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

Trump Survivor Coin

“Mr. Trump’s dismissals raise troubling questions about the administration’s desire to politicize the military and to remove legal constraints on the President’s power,” the letter states.

The former defense officials argue that Trump’s actions undermine the stability of the armed forces, deterring future military service and eroding the trust Americans place in their military.

“The United States cannot afford to have our military infected by partisan politics and distracted from its core mission of defending the nation,” they wrote, quoting George Washington’s warning that, “The Army is a dangerous instrument to play with.”

Trump’s Defense: “A Warfighter Who Delivers”

Trump fired back on Truth Social, defending his decision and championing his new nominee.

“I want to thank General Charles ‘CQ’ Brown for his over 40 years of service… He is a fine gentleman and an outstanding leader,” Trump posted. “Today, I am honored to announce that I am nominating Air Force Lieutenant General Dan ‘Razin’ Caine to be the next Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.”

Trump praised Caine as a battle-tested leader who played a pivotal role in defeating ISIS during his first term. He also accused the Biden administration of overlooking Caine for promotion due to political bias, adding, “But not anymore!”

The nomination of Caine, however, is already facing procedural hurdles. Federal law requires that a nominee for Chairman of the Joint Chiefs have served in a top military leadership role, which Caine has not. This means Trump must grant him a waiver to bypass the rule—a move that is sure to trigger further scrutiny.

More Firings and Leadership Overhaul Underway

Following Trump’s announcement, current Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed that more high-level firings are imminent.

“This evening the President announced that he intends to nominate Lieutenant General Dan ‘Razin’ Caine… General Caine embodies the warfighter ethos and is exactly the leader we need to meet the moment,” Hegseth stated.

Hegseth also revealed that the administration is actively seeking replacements for Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Lisa Franchetti and Air Force Vice Chief of Staff General James Slife, along with new leadership for the Judge Advocates General of the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

“We are putting in place new leadership that will focus our military on its core mission of deterring, fighting, and winning wars,” he declared.

The Battle for Confirmation Begins

With five former defense chiefs raising alarms and a Senate confirmation battle looming, Trump’s military shake-up is set to spark fierce political fights in Washington. Whether Caine secures his post or becomes a casualty of partisan warfare remains to be seen. But one thing is clear: the battle over America’s military leadership has only just begun.
