“This legislation is about keeping Mississippi communities safe,” Keen stated. “We’ve seen firsthand the danger posed by bad actors and violent criminals who enter this country illegally, like the innocent life of Laken Riley. President Trump’s administration has made it clear that deporting illegal immigrants is a priority, and we are proud to do our part here in Mississippi to help support his agenda and protect our citizens.”
The program, if passed, would be funded through the Mississippi State Legislature, allowing citizens to play a direct role in ensuring the enforcement of federal immigration laws.
Mississippi DA: Program Empowers Communities
Mississippi District Attorney Matthew Barton has been a strong advocate for the bill, stating that this initiative empowers local communities to take action in securing their own safety. He sees it as a necessary step to reinforce Trump’s immigration policies.
“When President Trump took office this week, he immediately recognized the emergency at our borders, rolling out executive orders to combat illegal immigration and cartels,” Barton said. “This legislation builds upon that foundation, empowering local leaders and communities to support federal efforts in protecting our citizens.”
Barton also noted that beyond security, the bill would help taxpayers by reducing the financial strain associated with illegal immigration.
“Legal immigration is a cornerstone of America, and we must ensure that our borders are secure and that the safety of Mississippians comes first,” he added.
Missouri Leading the Charge with Similar Legislation
Mississippi isn’t alone in its fight against illegal immigration. Missouri lawmakers have proposed similar legislation designed to enlist citizens in the effort to report and remove illegal aliens from their communities.
Missouri State Senator David Gregory (R-MO) introduced Senate Bill 72, which aims to create a reporting system for violations and offer incentives for those who provide information leading to the arrest of illegal aliens. The bill also proposes the Missouri Illegal Alien Certified Bounty Hunter Program, which would allow bail bondsmen to track and detain illegal immigrants.
Under this program, the Missouri Department of Public Safety would establish a hotline, email, and online portal for citizens to report suspected violations, ensuring swift action is taken.

States Step Up to Support Trump’s Immigration Agenda
With the Biden administration having left the border in crisis, Trump’s return has reignited efforts to restore law and order. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) faces overwhelming challenges in carrying out mass deportations, prompting conservative states to take matters into their own hands.
Mississippi’s bounty hunter program could set a precedent for other states looking to crack down on illegal immigration. As Trump’s “Border Czar” Tom Homan continues to spearhead enforcement efforts, it’s clear that states like Mississippi and Missouri are stepping up to do their part.
If successful, these programs could play a major role in fulfilling Trump’s commitment to securing America’s borders and protecting its citizens.
