Trump Shuts Down Federal Race-Based Scholarship Website

A federal website designed to help Americans find scholarships has become the latest target in the Trump administration’s broader campaign against race-based preferences in education.

CareerOneStop, a U.S. Department of Labor-sponsored career and education resource, advertises more than 9,500 scholarships, fellowships, grants and other financial-aid opportunities. Its scholarship search tool allows users to narrow results according to categories including location, level of study, affiliation and sex-specific eligibility.

The controversy centers on the fact that the database can surface awards whose eligibility requirements are tied to demographic characteristics.
