Vice President JD Vance is asking the Justice Department to take a closer look at allegations that hospitals and medical providers may have used questionable insurance billing practices while providing gender-related treatments to minors.
Vance referred a newly released Department of Health and Human Services report to Attorney General Todd Blanche for review of possible violations of federal law. The 64-page report, titled “Wolves in White Coats: How Doctors and Hospitals Pushed and Profited from the Fraud of ‘Gender Medicine,’” examines the growth of pediatric gender programs and the way certain treatments were allegedly coded for insurance purposes.
The report focuses heavily on claims involving puberty blockers, hormones and other gender-related interventions provided to children and teenagers. HHS says its nationwide review found more than 225 hospitals and health systems that had established pediatric gender programs.
