The former House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi, is beginning to lose the authority and clout she previously enjoyed in the chamber.
At eighty, Rep. Anna Eshoo, a fellow Californian from Silicon Valley and a staunch friend, is retiring. She has served in Washington, D.C., for the bulk of the last thirty years.

“As the first woman and the first Democrat to ever represent our district, I’m very proud of the body of bipartisan work I’ve been able to achieve on your behalf in Congress,” In a video that she uploaded to social media, Eshoo stated “As my last year in Congress approaches, I will continue my work with vigor and unswerving commitment to you.”
Eshoo highlights a recent brunch she had in the Golden State with Pelosi and members of Congress. This development indicates that a more radical element is taking control of the Democratic Party, and it also signals the diminishing significance of both Pelosi and Eshoo.
Politico reported that Eshoo had already earlier announced her retirement, as has Representative Jackie Speier (D-Calif.), 73 “is the second longtime ally of former Speaker Nancy Pelosi to depart Congress.”
Further Democrats in California are choosing not to run for Congress, adding their names to the increasing number of legislators quitting their positions. Among the Democrats who have chosen not to run for office again after ten years in office is Representative Tony Cárdenas. 31 legislators in all, 10 Republicans and 21 Democrats, have decided not to run for reelection in the next election season.
“Both Eshoo and Cárdenas represent seats in solidly Democratic districts. But Eshoo’s retirement will also prompt a race to replace her as head of the Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee. Rep. John Sarbanes, D-Md., and Cardenas were next in line and are both retiring,” Roll Call reported.
Pelosi received a subpoena at the beginning of the month. “to produce documents in a criminal case” in California.
According to Fox News, Pelosi addressed a message to the House of Representatives informing them of the subpoena. “was read by the House Clerk, which is standard when a member is issued a subpoena related to a civil or criminal matter.”
“This is to notify you formally pursuant to Rule Eight of the rules of the House of Representatives, that I, the Honorable Nancy Pelosi, Speaker Emerita, and U.S. Representative for the 11th Congressional District of California, have been served with third party subpoenas from the prosecution and the defendant to produce documents in a criminal case and United States District Court for the Northern District of California,” Fox News cited Pelosi’s statement.

“After consultation with the Office of General Counsel, I have determined that compliance with the subpoenas is consistent with the privileges and of the House to the extent it requires production of non-privileged information. The responses to the subpoenas will be identical,” The statement made additional note of.
According to a Fox story, Pelosi’s staff declined to comment on the legal matter. However, a knowledgeable source said that the subpoena had to do with David DePape’s upcoming trial. DePape, who broke into Pelosi’s husband’s San Francisco residence with force, had previously been found guilty of assault-related offenses.
Following the incident, Pelosi made hints about retirement, noting how it might affect her future plans.
The presenter stated that there has been in an exclusive conversation with CNN anchor Anderson Cooper “been a lot of discussion about whether you’d retire if Democrats lose the House.”
In response, the speaker at the time stated that the “decision will be affected about what happened the last week or two,” This prompted Cooper to inquire, “Will your decision be impacted by the attack in any way?”
Pelosi said, “Yes,” but it’s clear that she didn’t give up.
