Teenager slain by a left-wing activist gets free with only 10 years in prison. The district attorney of North Dakota made a shocking choice when he changed the charge from murder to manslaughter.
On September 18, 2022, Cayler Ellingson, 18, never returned home after attending a street dance event close to Grace City, North Dakota. The left-wing political activist Shannon Brandt, 41, who had been drinking, and he got into a contentious political debate. Later on in the evening, Ellingson attempted to go home and voiced fear of being followed. Brandt struck him with his SUV, killing him. After leaving the scene and eventually confessing to the police, Brandt was apprehended.
After former President Donald Trump made a statement about Brandt’s case, it received widespread attention. In response to public criticism, the initial charges of criminal vehicular homicide, DUI, and fleeing the scene were changed to murder. Despite the lack of a plea agreement, the Foster County State Attorney later reduced it to manslaughter. According to Brandt’s lawyer, there is “no evidence” to back up the accusations of intentional killing.
The issue is that there is proof Brandt intended to kill Ellingson. In his initial contact to the police, he claimed that the reason he killed his victim was because the man was a “Republican extremist.” Amazingly, he was subsequently sent free on a bond of merely $50,000, and now Brinster is promoting the claim that Brandt’s “erratically” driving was the cause of Ellingson’s death. She dismissed the DUI charges and the charges against him for fleeing the scene when she permitted him to enter a guilty plea to a single count of manslaughter on May 18.

After the accusations were dropped, Brandt’s punishment was no longer enhanced, and the most time he could spend in jail was 10 years. However, there is a potential that he will be given probation instead of going to prison.
