The House Just Passed a Major Win for Kids Online

The House of Representatives has taken a major step toward strengthening protections for children online, approving a far-reaching internet safety package that now heads to the Senate, where lawmakers are still debating how aggressively Washington should regulate major digital platforms.

The legislation, known as the Kids Internet and Digital Safety (KIDS) Act, combines 14 separate proposals into a single legislative package designed to address growing concerns over children’s exposure to harmful online content. Among its most closely watched provisions is a measure requiring age verification before minors can access online pornography.

Supporters say the proposal reflects mounting concern over the ease with which explicit material is available to young users and argue Congress can no longer ignore the issue.
