Frey Busted Skipping Memorial Day for Floyd

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey is under fresh scrutiny after a Memorial Day social media sequence that critics say revealed a troubling set of priorities—one that initially centered entirely on George Floyd while overlooking America’s fallen service members on one of the nation’s most solemn holidays.

On Memorial Day morning, Frey began his online activity not with a tribute to the military dead, but with a series of posts focused on George Floyd. The mayor’s early messaging highlighted Floyd’s legacy and ongoing redevelopment efforts tied to George Floyd Square, along with continued calls for “accountability.” The tone and timing of the posts quickly drew attention, not because Floyd’s death is unrelated to Minneapolis history, but because of what was missing entirely at the outset of the day: any acknowledgment of the U.S. troops who died in service to the country.

By mid-morning, that absence was impossible to ignore. According to a Breitbart reporter, Frey had not published a single message honoring fallen soldiers hours into Memorial Day. Meanwhile, other Minnesota political figures had already taken a different approach. Governor Tim Walz had posted at 8:55 a.m. recognizing service members, Senator Amy Klobuchar had shared a message at 8:22 a.m., and Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison had posted at 8:03 a.m. Each of them, regardless of political differences, had already marked the national holiday in traditional fashion.
