Woman Hurt After Dog “Triggers” Gun in Car

>> Continued From the Previous Page <<

In a matter of moments, the situation escalated. The shotgun was triggered inside the vehicle and discharged through the front passenger-side door of the truck. The blast did not remain contained in the vehicle. Instead, it exited the parking area and traveled outward toward nearby traffic.

A woman sitting in a separate vehicle several yards away was struck by shotgun pellets during the incident. Officials told KNOP that she had her right arm positioned out of her window when the projectile impacted her upper arm. Despite the frightening nature of the event, authorities confirmed her injuries were not considered life-threatening.

The woman was not transported by ambulance. Instead, a family member quickly drove her to Regional West Medical Center, where she received treatment for her injuries. No additional injuries were reported at the scene, and no bystanders in the immediate vicinity were physically harmed.

Early confusion surrounded the nature of the weapon involved. Police noted that the first emergency reports described the incident as potentially involving a BB gun. However, responding officers later determined that the damage and evidence at the scene were consistent with a shotgun discharge. KNOP reported that investigators observed clear indications of shotgun impact on the passenger-side door of the truck.

As the investigation developed, more details emerged about the moments leading up to the discharge. Video circulating on social media captured the tense aftermath, including the driver exiting the vehicle immediately following the blast. The footage, cited by Univision, also included an armed individual issuing rapid instructions in Spanish. The voice can be heard saying: “The key, quick. Key, phones, and wallets, quick,” the report stated.

Authorities have not indicated that the armed individual was connected to the discharge itself, but the presence of multiple people, weapons, and rapid movements inside and around the vehicle has added complexity to the ongoing investigation.

Law enforcement officials in Scottsbluff have emphasized that the case remains open. The Scottsbluff Police Department said investigators are continuing to review how the firearm was stored inside the truck, how it became accessible, and what specific sequence of events led to the trigger being pulled. Questions remain about firearm safety practices, especially regarding leaving a loaded weapon in a vehicle with animals or unsecured movement inside the cabin.

Fox News Digital reported that it reached out to the Scottsbluff Police Department for additional comment and clarification as the investigation continues to develop.

While the circumstances are still being pieced together, the incident has already raised broader concerns about firearm storage safety and the unpredictable risks that can emerge when loaded weapons are left unsecured in confined spaces. What should have been a routine stop at a gas station instead became a stark reminder of how quickly preventable factors can align into a dangerous outcome.
